A filling may be advised when the teeth have decay around them. Sometimes fillings may be necessary if the teeth have minor fractures that can be restored with fillings. A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape.
Composite (tooth-colored) fillings are matched to be the same color as your teeth and therefore used where a natural appearance is desired.
What to Expect During a FILLING
- Local anesthesia – at the beginning of your filling procedure, you may be given local anesthesia to numb the area around the tooth.
- Tooth decay removal – then we will remove the decayed part and shape the space to ready it for the filling. A solution is applied on the tooth to allow for bonding following which the tooth is treated with light.
- Resin application – For certain types of fillings, the dentist will layer on the resin and harden it using a bright light. This makes it strong.
- Polishing – after the filling has been placed, we will polish the teeth and evaluate your bite.
