Ways To Boost Your Immune System
You may be thinking of ways to boost your immune system and stay healthy during these challenging times. One of the things we want to remind our patients is that your oral health plays an important part in overall health. In particular, periodontal disease, or gum disease, can be harmful to your teeth and gums and it can increase your risk of some major health problems. Read more on how to prevent gum disease. Periodontal disease is known as a silent disease because many people don’t know they have it until they are in the more advanced stages. That’s why it’s important to watch out for the early warning signs:
- Gums that bleed after brushing your teeth and flossing
- Gums that are tender or sore
- Bad breath or having a bad taste in your mouth
- Receding gum line
If left untreated, gum disease progresses to gingivitis. Gingivitis occurs when the bacteria in plaque buildup on the teeth causes the gums to become inflamed. If gingivitis is not addressed, it becomes a more serious problem known as periodontitis, when the inner layer of the gum begins to pull away from the teeth and does further damage to your gums. So how do you avoid this terrible problem? Avoid plaque buildup on your teeth by brushing twice a day for 2 minutes at a time and flossing at least once a day. Also, keeping up with professional cleaning and exams gives us a chance to see if your gums might be in trouble. If you do have this dental condition, however, we have treatments to heal your gums depending on the stage of disease. We use advanced technology to get your oral health back on the right track. Until we see you again, we hope you and your family stay healthy.
